The thermal wine holders are bottles containers that insulate the bottle and slow down its heating.
Very useful for keeping wine on the table and being able to serve it at the ideal temperature, primarily white wines. Respecting the serving temperature is critically important to appreciate wine.
The thermal container does not fulfil the function of cooling the wine but that of maintaining the temperature of the wine for a longer time, therefore the bottle must already be cold when it is inserted.
Wood is a natural insulator and unlike materials such as plastic and steel, brings life to the table, with a pleasant and informal touch. The inside of the jars is treated with resin to preserve them from condensation water. It can be turned from a single piece of wood or by combining different woods with the segmented technique.
It is a procedure similar to that of a vase, but the final result must be a container large and deep enough to contain a bottle of sparkling wine.
In the case of a thermal vase hollowed out of from a single piece of wood, a log of wood is roughened between the spindles; a grip is created for the chuck jaws in compression and is clamped to the lathe for the head excavation. Once the excavation and the profile have been completed, the external surface is smoothed, finished and the socket for the chuck is cut. The most problematic part is the deep turning because of the distance of the chisel support from the cut and the vibrations that are created employing a very long chisel.
The realization of the thermal holder with wooden segments is a little more complex. Two or three vases are dug, attached one on the top of the other with a joint and glued. In this way the excavation is completed for each segment working then with lower excavation depths, the final depth of the container is reached adding up the segments.
