decorative wood vases and bottles

Original handmade wooden objects. Decorative, refined, original handcrafted products, with singular shapes, are suitable for display by integrating the furniture with a pleasant and unique touch. These products however have usefulness as vases or as object holders. Almost always they are undercut with the internal profile that follows the inside like a real vase.

Crafting hand made wood vases

Turning a wooden vase can be a simple or a very complex process. The difficulty depends on the form and techniques used. A vase is generally turned longitudinally by end grain hollowing but it can also be turned cross grain. The wooden vase is a decorative rather than a functional element, pleasant as stand-alone or as a container for dried or artificial flowers. It can hardly be employed to contain liquids, if not by inserting a glass container inside. Since a wooden vase rarely provides a functional purpose, there are many possibilities to design imaginative shapes.
In most cases, the piece of wood from which the vase is obtained is attached from one end to the spindle of the lathe and then the profile is designed and the vase is hollowed.
With more laborious techniques, it is possible to obtain vases hollowing the inside with a deep undercut, with the typical linear and flattened shape with a narrow and elegant mouth. Other techniques include segmented woodturning starting from glued minute pieces of wood or glued rings.
Each hand-turned artisan vase has a unique shape and character and is suitable for an unusual gift. The beauty of the end product does not depend only on the shape and the wood used, but the curvatures of the vase profile will highlight the grain of the wood. Picking up a well-finished wooden vase is also a very pleasant tactile experience.
