To produce an earring holder, 4 separate pieces of wood are used: a base, the central column, the earring holder roof, and a pinnacle. The terminal pinnacle acts as a handle and can equally be used as a holder for rings. The four pieces are then joined together by gluing all the components together.
Initially, the base is turned, gluing a circular piece of wood to a faceplate and turning the lower part of the base digging a socket for the chuck jaws. The base is unglued and overturned, attaching it to the lathe chuck using the slot just created. The upper part of the base is profiled, and a hole is drilled in the center to fix the tenon of the column.
The column is turned longitudinally to the desired shape, leaving at the ends two tenons of the size of the holes drilled on the base and the roof.
The roof of the earrings produced gluing a roughly circular axis to a faceplate, once the lower part of the roof has been made, it is unglued, overturned, and glued back to the faceplate. The upper part of the roof is profiled a hole is drilled in the center to house the column tenon The roof of the earring holder is then taken off the lathe and the holes for the insertion of the earwires are drilled using a protractor jig fixed to the base of a pillar drill.
The pinnacle is turned with a tenon at the base.
Now everything is joined by gluing it: the column with the two tenons at the base and the roof of the earring holder and the pinnacle with the tenon inserted in the roof. The gluing operation is a stage process, in every stage, the earrings holder is kept centered and in compression between the two spindles of the lathe. When the glue is dry, a new stage is started. Ultimately, the holder is finished with oil because the wax would obstruct the tiny holes.
